International Baccalaureate program 9th-12th Grade Reading Lists 2011 - 2012 School year
Books are categorized as required summer reading (have read before school starts in August); required supplemental text (student will need text for regular class assignments to go along with books issued by school district); required supplemental reading (student will need to have read material but won’t need book in class); or recommended supplemental text (no assignments from text, but teacher feels student will benefit from it). Students may acquire books from source of their choice; those who find purchasing books a financial burden should consult their teachers or the IB coordinator. Also, the IBSF has generously purchased copies of the supplements to be available as references in the media center. | PROJECT BIG sIBling: OPPORTUNITY FOR NINTH GRADERS In an effort to stave off transition difficulty, I appeal to juniors and seniors to serve as an older "buddy" to freshmen who are a bit overwhelmed by high school multiplied by IB demands. Many of them are eager to serve! However, when a sign-up list is made available to 9th graders to be mentored, the response is close to non-existent. Because I am often contacted by parents who are concerned about their child's transition anxieties, I suspect that the freshmen simply don't want to admit vulnerability by signing a publicly circulated list. Therefore, if a parent or student would like for me to facilitate a student mentor relationship, please let me know via email, phone call, or personal visit. |
