STUDENT RELATED EVENTS

 

Freshman Orientation (Thursday, August 18 8:30-10:00am, PHS Auditorium):

IBSF has a table located in the auditorium lobby with membership and volunteer forms, T-shirts for sale and IBSF members to provide information to new parents and students.

 

Freshman Mixer (Thursday, Aug. 18 6:00 pm-9:00 pm in the PHS Cafeteria):

Chairs:  Debbie Cook (cookpatt@cox.net), Rocky Parra (bparra1shop@cox.net) and Jill Robinson (jrobinson@edscc.org)

Hosted by the IBSF and organized by Freshman Parents, this party is especially for our new Freshmen and traditionally held on the night of Freshman orientation. New freshmen have the chance to meet each other and a few upperclassmen before the first day of school. Light snacks and sodas are served and there are door prizes and a DJ.

 

PHS Open House (Tuesday, September 13, 6:00 p.m.):

The IBSF sets up a table located near the IB office with information about IBSF membership, volunteer opportunities, etc.

 

IB Induction Ceremony (Date TBD. in the PHS Auditorium):

In the fall, families of IB Juniors who have satisfied the requirements to enter the IB Programme are invited to their studentÕs formal induction and acceptance into the program.

 

IB 101 (September 27, 6:00 p.m. in the PHS Auditorium)

Chair: Rocky Parra (bparra1shop@cox.net) and Jill Robinson (jrobinson@edscc.org)

IB 101 is an informative presentation of the IB Programme, its requirements, etc. presented by the IB coordinator and IB faculty. The program is geared toward freshman and sophomore parents, but all IB parents are welcome to attend.

 

IB Recognition Ceremony: (Thursday, Dec. 15, 6:00 p.m. in the PHS Auditorium)

Our alumni from the previous graduating class return for the Holidays to receive their IB Diplomas and Certificates of Completion in the presence of family and friends, with a reception following.

 

IB Tailgate Party (Friday, October 7 at Bayview Park):  

Chair:  Lorenda Ortega (lorendaortega@bellsouth.net

Students and their families are invited to Bayview Park for hotdogs and sodas prior to a football game in the fall.  This event is a great way to meet other IB families early in the year!

 

Great Expectations Scholarship Presentation: (Awarded at Senior Banquet Date TBD)

IBSF awards a scholarship, Great Expectations, to an outstanding senior student.  In an effort to further the mission of the International Baccalaureate Organization, this scholarship recognizes IB students who demonstrate an active intellect and a commitment to community service.

Back to School Teacher Luncheon: (Friday, August 19 11:30 am in the IB Office)

IB Faculty Meeting Refreshments:  

Chair: Jenny Allen (jallen500@cox.net) Light refreshments are served for IB faculty meetings after school.

 

History Fair:  The History Fair judging takes place on the Thursday, January 19 and Friday, January 20.

IBSF provides food & beverages for the judges on both days. 

 

 SENIOR EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES

 

IB Extended Essay Party (Monday, October 31 at Bayview Park):

Service Project Chairs:  Lisa Gupta (retinavit@aol.com) and Karen Hagerott (khagerott@bellsouth.net)

Party Chairs:  Donna Reeves (hdreeves@mindspring.com),  Debbie Stearns (ddstearns@cox.net), and Claire Rees (cfrees@cox.net)

After submitting their completed Extended Essays at a ceremony in the PHS Auditorium and completing a community service project, the Seniors are treated to a celebration hosted by the IBSF.

 

Senior Sendoff Party: (Assembly - Tuesday, May 1, 1st period, in the PHS Auditorium.  Picnic for seniors follows at Bayview Park)

The last day IB seniors are on campus before IB exams begin.  An assembly is held in the auditorium for all IB students and then the IB seniors have a party/picnic on their last day of school before IB Exams begin. 

 

Senior Banquet: (Tuesday, May 22, 6 p.m. First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall)

Chair: Debbie Stearns (ddstearns@cox.net)

A dinner for seniors and their families to celebrate their graduation from the IB Programme.  IBSF also purchases the IB stoles for our senior students to wear at graduation and the stoles are presented to the seniors at the banquet.

 

FUNDRAISING EVENTS

 

IB: The Drive for Excellence (Kick off at IB 101 and runs through November):

Chairs:  Jenny Allen (jallen500@cox.net) and Lisa Gupta (retinavit@aol.com)

The Drive for Excellence is our annual fundraising campaign. Our goal for 2010-2011 is $15,000 and 100% IB parent participation. A donation form is located under the section entitled ÔYou Can Help>Financial SuppportÕ.

 

IBSF Membership Drive (Kicks off in the summer and runs through Dec. 31):

Membership in IBSF helps provide funds which help support the IB Programme, its students, faculty and administration. Membership in IBSF also confers voting privileges at IBSF Annual Meeting for the election of the officers of the IBSF Board.

A directory of IBSF Members, who choose to be listed, is published annually and distributed to all IBSF Members. 

 

IBSF Scrapbook:

Chair:  Lisa Marsh (mgmmarsh@bellsouth.net)An annual scrapbook is compiled containing items pertaining to the IB Programme and its students.  Scrapbooks from past years are in the IB Office.

 

Volunteer Coordinator:

Helps find exam monitors/proctors for AP & IB exams.  Oral exams in January for English; Written exams in May for AP & IB Exams.
